This exciting unit supports the Structures and Mechanisms section of any school curriculum. To introduce the unit the students share The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig story and use activities to learn about different tools. They will experiment with levers, role play, build models and explore machines and tools in fairy tales. There is a Reflection handout and a Rubric for each student.

The story of the Three Little Pigs is well known and can provide an effective stimulus for science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics . In this project students, conduct experiments to find the properties of various materials, and learn about the Beaufort wind scale. They design houses, discuss energy and discover the basic needs of plants. Art work is examined in various ways. There are suggestions for music, dance and drama. In mathematics students investigate the #3, explore shapes, and play probability games. There are 7 handouts and many assessment suggestions.

This unit gives specific ideas and instructions for hatching eggs in the classroom. You will find many ideas and suggestions for work with dozens, graphing, labelling, sequencing and art and crafts. This project is something that students remember for a very long time.
